Pre-owned Rolex Submariner Date 116659 (2020) appears, at first glance, to be a blinged-out variation of the white gold Rolex Smurf ref. 116619. But, of course, this watch is so much more than that. While the ref. 116659 SABR also has a blue dial, the watch face on this model is a deeper shade of blue and has a delicate sunray finish to reflect the light, unlike the matte blue dial on the Smurf. If you look even closer at the dial, you will notice that Rolex has left out the typically present depth rating, creating what appears to be a cleaner dial to offset the opulence of the bejeweled bezel and lugs.
Additionally, there is no ceramic insert. Instead, the bezel is adorned with 27 baguette-cut sapphires punctuated by baguette-cut diamonds at 11 of the hour markers. Like other Submariners, 12 o’clock is still distinguished by an inverted triangle but now features a cut diamond instead of a luminescent pip. The first nine sapphires are in a lighter shade to distinguish the first 15 minutes from the rest of the bezel for timing decompression times, a charming detail for the purist at heart. Lastly, the lugs are encrusted with 92 round diamonds for a total of 1.72 carats worth of diamonds and 3.90 carats of sapphires. It is a truly spectacular display of Rolex’s gem-setting prowess and enduring dive watch heritage. Rolex Submariner Date 116659 Sapphire & Diamond Bezel
